At a fringe meeting of Plaid Cymru's Spring Conference, Muslims for Plaid launched their new microsite. The bilingual site is the latest initiative to come from Muslims members of Plaid Cymru since their campaigning group was established on 21st September (International Day of Peace) 2006.
Current chair of the group, Omar Ali, said,
"Talking face-to-face with the electorate will always be the mainstay of political campaigning and letterbox leafleting will be with us well into the foreseeable future, but we must also keep up with the technology in order to ensure our message reaches the widest possible audience. This website is part of our programme to create greater awareness of Plaid Cymru amongst Muslims in Wales. We believe Plaid is the natural home for Welsh Muslim voters based on the party's track record on local, national and international issues."
Syed Latif, Muslims for Plaid Webmaster added,
"The [Muslims for Plaid] microsite will not only assist the party in communicating our message to the growing number of young Welsh Muslims taking a positive interest in local politics, but will also serve as a useful news archive vault."
The site will feature regular news updates and there is archived news going back to 2006. The site contains information on the history of Plaid Cymru, the history of Muslims for Plaid and even a brief history of Muslims in Wales. There are also a number of embedded videos and a 'Members Stories' section where some of the Muslims in Plaid tells us in their own words why they joined the party.
